[ There is a delivery of food outside of the door when they come back one day mid-October, packed in a crate full of jars and wrapped foods. On the top is a note: ]
To kindly resident of the Lake,
For your winter stores, I have prepared this food for you to keep before the snows come. Whilst we have a glut of food at present, it is best to keep this in the case that should we be trapped inside your house, you can rely on this food to help you see through until the thaw frees any blocked roads back to town.
I hope you find it suitable and that it keeps you well.
In Health and to your Good Will, Gilia St. Loe, Second Child, Daughter-Sea, Of the Isle St. Loe, She Who Sings the Sea to Prosperity

[ Most gracious. He does enjoy the sound of that, in his head. ]
Gilia St. Loe, Daughter Sea,
At your earliest convenience would suit me just fine. If you'd like a more concrete timeframe, how about in two night's time? Here I have much more motivation to explore and cultivate my myriad of interests, such as cooking, so I am eager myself for the opportunity as well as your company.
You'll find a temperature-sealed box with four strains of common 'Earth' animal DNA + two from sources you get to identify.
Someone (who knows quite well who they are) failed to make sure the .2bit and .fa were preserved in the system transfer. We've been resequencing from the cold samples so we can reopen xenobiology, but these are the only ones we've finished so far.
You'll also find a new app on your phone. The sequences are uploaded into the app. You can dick around with possible hybridizations, splices, and all that by way of digital simulation.
Make us something we'll have fun placing bets on.
(Before you ask, the DNA samples are yours to keep. No need to cook us up a live specimen. We just want the recipe.)
( the specimens are four animals of your choosing, though all four are potentially lethal in some format (whether by venom or claw or constriction or some other means). the two 'unknown samples' can be any monstrosity within the cabin in the woods monsters list - partially humanoid monsters count, but nothing like 'zombies' or 'witches' or something.
otherwise, feel free to get creative with the details, or find a fucky creature on pinterest or something that could feasibly be a combo he landed on.
the aforementioned app has an 'upload' and 'submit' button for when he's satisfied with his work. )
[ The DNA samples end up being a komodo dragon (tongue), salamander (skin), snake-necked turtle (neck), and harpy eagle (claws). While already a fun combination, he adds in the two stands of unknown DNA which ended up being a demon and a dragonbat.
The demon adds the fangs, horns, and fire-resistance. While it, unfortunately, doesn't spawn wings, the dragonbat does give the creature its ears and echolocation. It ends up looking something akin to this in theory, but varying in color from each one rather than a single monster having multiple.
It takes him a week or so to finalize things in a way he likes. The creature is fast, flexible, and extremely lethal due to the sharpness of its claws and venom on its elongated tongue. He names her Saba and submits his work. ]

Thank you for your gracious gift. I appreciate it deeply. I hadn't considered the winters here could be harsh, which was an oversight on my part.
May I return the favor of your cooking for me as thanks?
Sincerely,

Most Gracious Professor Aiuenobrist Quintalian
I would be glad to take a meal with you once more, now it will be under such better settings than the sparse meal I cooked for you already.
When would you like me to attend you?
